Benzodiazepine Antagonists
Flumazenil is a competitive benzodiazepine antagonist used to reverse the effects of benzodiazepines. Situations where flumazenil is used include in overdose events and for reversal of sedation. The medication is short-acting so several doses may be required. Flumazenil can precipitate benzodiazepine withdrawal so care in administration must be taken as seizures may be precipitated.
