Ergot Alkaloids
Ergot alkaloids are medications used for the treatment of migraine headaches. These medications work by causing cerebral vasoconstriction by exerting effects on many receptors including alpha, dopamine, and serotonin receptors. Due to the vasoconstricting effects of ergot alkaloids, these medications are contraindicated in patients with angina and peripheral vascular disease.
Class Drugs
Ergotamine
Dihydroergotamine
Class Mechanism of Action

Class Adverse Effects
Nausea
Contraindicated in peripheral vascular disease and in patients with angina due to vasoconstrictive effects
