Fondaparinux
Fondaparinux works similarly to heparin/LMWH but it is synthetic. Fondaparinux binds to antithrombin III, which potentiates inactivation of factor Xa and results in reduced coagulation. Fondaparinux is used in the treatment of DVT/PE and in DVT prophylaxis. Fondaparinux is not approved for the treatment of HIT by the FDA, but is used for this indication "off-label."
