Non-nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors
Non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors are used to treat HIV and work by inhibiting the HIV reverse transcriptase enzyme. Non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors differ from nucleoside and nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors because non-nucleosides bind to an allosteric site near the active site of the enzyme, causing a conformational change that renders the reverse transcriptase ineffective.
