Catapult Pharmacology
Clindamycin
Clindamycin is used in the treatment of strep, staph (including MRSA), and anaerobic infections. Clindamycin binds the 50s subunit of ribosomes and inhibits protein synthesis. Clindamycin is primarily bacteriostatic. Clindamycin can induce resistance with mechanisms of efflux pumps and enzymatic degradation. While all antibiotics can promote development of C. difficile diarrhea, clindamycin is a well-known cause of C. difficile infections.
