Colchicine

Colchicine is a medication that is used in the treatment of acute gout flares and for treatment of pericarditis. Colchicine works by depolymerizing tubulin. Depolymerization of tubulin inhibits function of granulocytes and mobilization to affected areas.  GI side effects can be prominent. Blood dyscrasias can also occur.

  • Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea

Neutropenia

Myopathy

Aplastic anemia

Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding
