HIV Entry Inhibitors
Enfuvirtide and maraviroc are HIV entry inhibitors that function by binding to surface proteins on HIV, which prevents the alteration of shape needed for HIV to enter the cell. Enfuvirtide binds to gp41 and maraviroc binds to CCR5.

Drug Table
| Drug Name | Application | Comments | Image |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enfuvirtide | Mechanism; Binds gp41 (transmembrane glycoprotein) on HIV, which prevents change of shape/conformation to allow HIV to enter the cell; Adverse Reactions; Local injection site reactions | "Ent" "Virtue" "Tide" | |
| Maraviroc | Mechanism; -Binds CCR5 (a co-receptor to gp41) on HIV, which prevents change of shape/conformation to allow HIV to enter the cell; -Some strains of HIV also express CXCR4 an alternative co-receptor to gp41, which makes maraviroc ineffective | "Mars" "Virtue" "Rock" |
