IgE Monoclonal Antibodies - Asthma
Omalizumab is a monoclonal antibody with specificity of Immunoglobulin E or IgE. IgE is an immunoglobulin that plays a critical role in allergic responses and in conditions such as asthma, atopic dermatitis, and allergic rhinitis. Omalizumab is indicated for patients who have a documented perennial aeroallergen with moderate to severe asthma and works by binding IgE. Omalizumab is also indicated in the treatment of severe food allergies. Adverse effects can include arthralgias, parasitic infections, allergic reactions, and malignancy with long term use.
