Statins
Statins are widely used drugs in the treatment of hyperlipidemia. Statins inhibit HMG CoA reductase, which results in reduced synthesis of intracellular cholesterol. Reduced intracellular cholesterol promotes cell uptake of plasma cholesterol. Statins can elevate liver enzymes and cause myalgias and rhabdomyolysis.
