Teriparatide
Teriparatide is a synthetic parathyroid hormone medication. Parathyroid hormone stimulates osteoblasts in formation of new bone.
Parathyroid hormone, when constantly administered can actually result in resorption of bone, which would not be the desired effect of treatment; however, intermittent low doses of parathyroid hormone stimulate osteoblasts in formation of new bone. Teriparatide is dosed daily which aids in the pro-osteoblastic effects.
