Fosfomycin
Fosfomycin is a unique antibiotic that is used to treat urinary tract infections. Fosfomycin works by inhibiting cell wall synthesis by blocking the UDP-N-acetylglucosamine enolpyruvyl transferase enzyme. Fosfomycin is bactericidal. Uniquely, fosfomycin concentrates in the urine for several days after a single dose of the medication, which allows a single dose administration to be used for completion of treatment.
